A look back at SXSW and more!

Back in March, I had the pleasure of attending the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, TX, where WAFFLE screened as part of the Midnight Shorts program. The film screened three times throughout the festival week to packed audiences alongside other great shorts at the Alamo Drafthouse theaters. I had read so much about these theaters and about the awesome screenings that have taken place, so I was thrilled to watch WAFFLE there on the big screen.

Aside from all the WAFFLE-related stuff, I had a great time racing from panel to panel, screening to screening in the lively downtown Austin area and meeting new people everwhere I went. I think this was the first film festival I attended where I was actually able to watch a lot of the other films programmed and it was great to see the work of so many talented filmmakers and meet some of them as well. Being at SXSW was an amazing experience and I would love to go back, whether I have a film there or not.

Last month, WAFFLE screened at the Tromadance Film Festival in Asbury Park, NJ. Unfortunately, I was only able to attend for a short amount of time, but it was definitely worth it. I was very impressed with a lot of the short films I saw. WAFFLE played great and the audience responded really well to it. All of the screenings were free too! Tromadance is an awesome festival and I highly recommend it.

On May 3rd, WAFFLE screened as part of a Latin Horror showcase in NYC. There were some really good films on display here. I had already seen a few of them prior to the event, but it was great to experience them again on the big screen and with an engaging audience. WAFFLE had another great audience reaction here as well.

I think it's safe to say that WAFFLE has been having a very successful festival run so far. Audiences are really enjoying it and there will be more screenings to come throughout the rest of the year. Thank you to the great cast & crew and to those who have been supportive of the film.

Anthony Sylvester (editor) and I got a lot of work done this weekend and as a result, I'm happy to announce that picture on WAFFLE is now locked. Visually, it's looking great and it has a good flow. I'm now approaching the final stages of sound work before color-correction is applied.

This past week, I watched a very promising rough cut from editor Anthony Sylvester. We are now in the middle of making some crucial picture adjustments before moving on to color correction, which should be within the next two weeks. The goal is to spend most of June working on sound and have a final cut by early July. More post-production updates to come. In the meantime, here are a few more stills from the shoot:

Welcome to the "Waffle" blog.

"Waffle" is a short horror film that was shot in April 2010 and is currently in post-production. This blog will provide updates, content and other information relating to the film as it goes through editing and onto the film festival circuit.

Synopsis: A disfigured, science fair champion invites her new friend over for dinner, but by the time dessert arrives, the two schoolmates will discover each other's true, unpleasant nature.
